Hello everyone! I am so excited to be working with Swadley Studio as their marketing assistant! Lori is so happy that she will now be able to show off their recent wedding and portrait sessions on the blog and social media. For me, scrolling through all the photos is so much fun! I will also be working with them on select shoots and trying to up my photography game by tackling a wedding with them occasionally.

If you’re wondering what I look like, Lori took some great picture of me just for this post!

So, let’s get personal. The most interesting thing about me right now is that I live full-time in a RV. My husband and I just moved from Fredericksburg, VA to Harpers Ferry, WV. We sold our house in Fredericksburg and are technically homeless until we move into our new house in October. Living in a RV has been an experience since we have one of the smaller ones, not a studio apartment on wheels. The most frustrating thing is probably doing the dishes ALL THE TIME. But, we love the area! It is such a refreshing change from the tightly-packed townhouse and roadways of our past. My two dogs and I are especially happy we don’t have to drive a hour and a half anymore to go hiking.

Speaking of my two fur children, they are the stars of Lori’s photos.

My photography journey started out in 2004 as a photojournalist for the Army. However, it sat by the wayside for bit while I finished college, got married, and worked full-time. Recently, I’ve pulled out my old Nikon D60 for some practice. My most famous subjects are Randy, the little black one, and Snoopy, the spotted one. For all of you wondering, Snoops is a Dalmatian and Lab mix. Not a German Shorthair, like my husband originally thought when he picked him up at the pound. If you want to keep tabs on the two pups and our camper lifestyle  you can always find me on Instagram (@jes_roselife). Below are some shots I took of the fur children.

One reason (out of many) that I love having a senior model team is that I have access to the area’s best talent when I need models for a concept shoot.  As you may know, if you read my “about us” section, I started my photography career in the fashion modeling industry. I fell in love with not only the fashion, but also the planning that went into every detail and all the little nuances that it took to pull off an amazing shoot. It was the ULTIMATE creative experience!

Every now and then when I get bored, I crave that experience again so I come up with some crazy idea in my head for a photoshoot. The concept for this shoot was “Ice Queen”. It was thrown together rather quickly, and I think the end result was pretty “cool” (haha, I’m such a dork!).

I chose our Senior Model, Danielle, from Spring Mills High School for her gorgeous dark hair and big soulful eyes. Her look went perfectly with my dark rendition of an ice queen (you know, because as a mom I’ve had enough of Elsa for awhile…). I used props I had in the studio and purchased other supplies to create the headpiece she would wear in her hair, as well as the ice mask I made the night before the shoot while watching the Met Gala live stream (what PERFECT inspiration for a creative shoot!). I picked up the dress at Express a few years back for a party I went to, and I haven’t worn it since. I originally had a white dress in mind for this shoot, but once she was here and I had all the pieces laid out I ended up wanting something a little darker yet still glam. This dress killed it!

First, here are some headshots I did super quick before we started the fun with hair and makeup.

After I did her makeup (yes, I did makeup myself… scary!) and carefully placed the pieces of her crown, I glued the ice mask with eyelash glue around her eyes to complete the look. We had lots of fun experimenting with poses and props, and I love what we were able to create together. Thanks, Danielle, for letting me experiment on you with my crazy ideas!

Today, I wanted to show off some images of Sierra, a local high schooler from the Martinsburg area. Not only is she absolutely beautiful, but she’s a total sweetheart as well. She came to shadow me on a photoshoot for one of her class projects. Afterwards, we did a mini headshot session just for her. It was FREEZING cold that day and the wind was CRAZY but we had lots of fun. I loved her leather jacket that she wore because it went very well with her jeans. Her mom also came in a leather jacket, so I thought it would be fun to get some shots of Sierra in her mom’s jacket as well to change things up a little bit. Thanks so much Sierra for helping me out. I know you are going to do great things in life!

Last Friday we drove to Millwood High School in Winchester to watch Jon’s son, Byron, graduate. It’s so surreal to even say that, because it seems like just a few months ago I was meeting this adorable little 8 year old that I have heard so much about. I remember the day he was born, because I was hanging out with a bunch of friends in Stephens City and someone came over and said “Did you guys hear? Swadley’s baby was born today!”.  I didn’t even know who this “Swadley” guy was, but I had always heard all about him lol. It would be almost a year later that I actually met him for the first time at a music festival:)

Byron has grown into such a great guy, and Jon & I were so proud to watch him complete this chapter in his life!

We LOVE photographing weddings at the Historic McFarland House here in Martinsburg, WV. Not only because it is absolutely gorgeous, but because they do a great job at pulling off the most amazing wedding days. Nate and Caitlyn’s wedding was no exception. Great weather and a super-laid back couple made this day a fun and unforgettable event!

There was a really funny moment when Caitlyn’s dad gave her away. I won’t give details as not to incriminate anyone, but I’ll leave this here instead.

I usually don’t like to post these cheesy poses that people request, but I figured I’d show this. Jon got a cute shot as Caitlyn and the guys cracked up as the girls threaten to drop Nathan 😉
