While I love Old Town Winchester’s history, elegance and the pure beauty of it all, Winchester desperately needed a modern venue for events like concerts, meetings, networking groups, art shows, and of course: WEDDINGS! This Vendor Spotlight we’ll take a look at Winchester’s newest option for a wedding venue, The Bright Box Theater! When Josh took me on my first tour of the venue, I was in love. I didn’t quite feel like I was in Winchester anymore with the modern club-like atmosphere. You would never guess that this was once the old Leggett’s store until you make your way upstairs. The original escalator from the department store is still in place acting as a cool retro stairway to the venue’s upstairs meeting space.
From the time you make your way to the second floor, you realize this isn’t your typical event space. The owners have left the beautiful tin ceilings in place that remind you of the history that you are standing in, but they have seemlessly incorporated a sleek modern style to create a truly unique area for entertainment, meetings and events such as wedding receptions. I personally think it would be a fantastic location for a wedding reception for a couple going for an artistic flair with touch of Old Town history.
Perfect view of the Old Town Mall and the lovely courthouse, don’t you think?
My favorite spot, however, is the theater space on the main floor. It’s like you took a trip out of Winchester and stepped into the Birchmere in Alexandria (or The Independent in San Francisco for fellow west coast lovers out there). Very hip, very artistic, very chill. The space is versatile to suit any type of event, which is typical of the black box design style that the owner, Marilyn Finnemore envisioned for the space. They even hired an expert in black box design to make sure they got everything right. And indeed they did. Not only is the space visually appealing, but for sound snobs out there you’ll be happy to know that the acoustics are top-notch. For concerts, this is key, but for wedding receptions this is just a super awesome luxury that brings your event up a notch in sophistication. The DJ for the wedding I shot there was allowed to utilize the sound booth, and he was thoroughly impressed with the equipment (not to mention the fact that he didn’t have to haul all his gear into the venue… and he usually has quite a bit).
Here it is set up for a show later that evening that I was last there. Pretty swanky, huh?
Speaking of weddings, let’s get on with some shots of a real wedding reception that took place here. The reception I photographed was the first one they did, and they pulled it off beautifully. The bride & groom only hired us to shoot during the very start of the reception to get detail shots since they were not having any of the typical wedding reception traditions or dances, so I’ll just post some of the images we got of the space and how beautiful everything looked in that gorgeous light
